MAYA

Maya grew up in the ever-expanding capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Her life revolves around her love for tinkering with anything that makes notes and melodies. She has played the guitar for over 20 years with friends and musicians from USA to Slovakia to Japan.

She is the first and only Malaysian trans woman (as of 2021) who has been awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (now FCDO) since the programme commenced in 1983. Maya currently resides in the colorful port town of Bristol, UK.

As one of the few women musicians of trans experience in the country, she hopes to create positivity for and awareness of trans identity through her writing and music. She hopes to inspire other younger transgender folks to be their best self.
